UNDEROLOGY: Subtitled, Holy Forehead Transformation!

Every time I look at this, I'm a little blown away.  Here Connie is - this super-busy media mogul, and she took the time to really work with me on what was going to best suit my skin care needs.  I got my very own laminated perscription sheet, and I have to tell you:  it's WORKING.

When I hit my late (ahem!) thirties, I started noticing really big changes in my skin - most notably, my forehead.  I have inherited a wrinkly forehead from my mother and father (thanks for the DNA, yo!) and it bothers me.  So much that I actually considered Botox - the only reason I opted out was because I can't really afford it.  So I'm pretty much open to trying ANYTHING at this point.

Note: yes, I know this is a superficial fixation.  I logically know it's not a big deal, but it bothers me. A lot. You may remember that I even had my sister-in-law cut bangs for me to hide it, but they've grown out, and I just like my hair at a longer length....so what's a girl to do?

Enter:  UNDEROLOGY.

I'll be honest, I haven't tried all the products yet, but the ones that I HAVE used are FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC!   Here's what I've tried so far:

Gentle Foam Cleanser:  I use this daily in the morning and night, and it is definitely gentle, but also takes off my makeup (which you know I totally cake on every day).

Eye Give Up Eye Serum:  Most of you know that I am a bad sleeper, which results in dark circles and baggy undereyes.  This stuff is a MIRACLE IN A BOTTLE.  I swear by it.  I see almost instant results when I use it.  A teeny tiny bit goes a really long way.

HYDROXtreme Cream:  I use it both day and night as my moisturizer.  Nice and light (not oily or heavy, no smell (I get lots of smell-induced headaches, so this is PERFECT for me0, and I think my skin is looking much better these days.

Peptiage Mutlipeptide Serum:  This is the jackpot!  I've been using this specifically on my forehead and I see a HUGE difference.  Now, I'm not going to lie to you and say that my forehead is completely wrinkle-free, but it's GREATLY reduced now after almost a month of using it.

WANT PROOF?!  I've got it for you.   Here are two pictures of my forehead.  The first was taken in February 2011, the second today, on June 8th, 2011.  I tried to replicate the way my eyes were so that you could get the best representation of the changes.  I just did this now for this journal entry and uh, HOLY BEGEEZUS.  I didn't even realize how dramatic the difference was until just now:

THE COMFORT ZONE OF SOME AMAZING WOMEN (AND MEN)

I know I just did a recap of Vegas yesterday, but I purposely left this segment out because I thought it was too important to just lump in with everything else from the weekend.  I know some amazing women, and much to-do should be made about all of them after this weekend.  :)

As much as I try to downplay the "Diva" part of my name, much of what being a Diva is true for me.  I love to perform.  I love the spotlight.  I am a perfectionist when it comes to performing - not only for myself, but for others.  When I see talent in people, I tend to push them.  That often times gets me in trouble, but it's a gamble I'm willing to take, and a selfish one at that.  You see, there's  NOTHING that makes me happier in life than seeing someone come alive on stage.   And I'm not talking in the generic American Idol Big Giant Commercialized Voice way, I'm talking about becoming alive.

One of my proudest achievements is this burlesque group, The Diva Taunia Dolls Burlesque.  I take great pride in it because our doors are open to anyone and everyone who wants to experience it.  All shapes, all sizes, all races, all religions, all genders, all sexual preference.  EVERYONE is welcome here, in whatever capacity is comfortable for them.  Sometimes that means helping out with props, sometimes that means a huge vocal number, sometimes it means being part of a group number.  It doesn't really matter - we encourage participation in individualized ways, and I'm extraordinarily proud of that.

This past weekend, I saw a group of peers - amazing, beautiful, and talented women - step outside of their comfort zone and join our group.   There were lots of  "Holy shit, WTF am I doing!?"  moments, but there were also, "I'm challenging myself to do something new," moments.  And isn't that what life is all about?  LIVING IT?  So here, while I risk getting myself in trouble, I want to applaud some amazing women for the ballsy and fierce dancing in our show this past weekend:

LeAnne / Army Wife

First, I'd like to thank LeAnne again for her generous donation to the WLSFA, which won her a spot in the show.   LeAnne and I live hundreds of miles away from each other, so she learned this number entirely from video tutorials that she worked on with diligence.  She told me this was completely out of her comfort zone, which is why I was even more happy when she asked me the day of the show, "Did you bring some fishnets for me?"  :)   She told me that she had made this costume for her daughter, and now it fit her....and she looked like one foxy drill sergeant!  I was so proud of her for dancing her ass off and embracing it.  And really?  That smile says it all.

Kateria

I met Kateria for the first time at our Board meeting on Friday morning - and instant friend!  LOVE HER!  I said, "you have to be in my show," and she said, "ok."  Didn't even bat an eyelash!  Showed up at rehearsal at my room, I gave her this dress (which I LOVE , but it looked so hella cute on her that I let her keep it), and she danced her ass off!  I love anyone who jumps into life with so much energy
and happiness.  She's an amazing gal.

 

Toni & Lynnda / Bariatric TV.com 

 To be fair, Lynnda and Toni are not entirely new to performing, per se - I mean, they DO host Bariatric TV, but burlesque was definitely new for them. Generally, the word burlesque instills fear into the hearts of most women.  Still, Toni and Lynnda had talked about doing things out of their comfort zone, and they led by example - working the dance floor into a frenzy!  
I don't think I can even put into words how much I love these two gals.  They are the real-deal:  open, honest, friendly, and just honest to goodness good people.  (Mike gets a shoutout here for the same reasons - such an overall great group of people that I've been fortunate enough to become friends with!)

 

Beth / Melting Mama

 Let's be honest:  if anyone had reason to be nervous about getting onstage, it was Beth.  Being friends with Beth is a funny thing:  she's always surrounded by controversy, and for as many friends as she has, she also has enemies.  A lot of people don't like what she has to say at times, and she is much braver than me in that she doesn't censor herself.  The thing that I love about Beth is this:  you don't have to share her opinion.  Often times, I don't, and she knows that...but still?  We're friends.    I think we share the thought process that as long as you stand your ground with honesty, we're cool.   Beth is honest, and sometimes that isn't pretty.  But look at her here:  she really IS pretty.  Beautiful, really.

It took a LOT for her to get up onstage, and for that, she should be applauded.  She did it.  AND she did it in a tutu and corset.  The gal has balls to the gazillionth, even though I know she' ll readily tell me that she was scared to death.  So bravo, MM, you rocked that stage.  You OWNED it.

My Husband

I'm a lucky girl.  Here is a guy that has never been onstage before, and I forced him to 1) dance and 2) host the entire show.  This is how much he loves me....he did it for me.   He was petrified, but he did it, and I think he did a fantastic job.  As we watched the video from that night, I was beaming with pride.  He'd never hosted anything before, and was:) forced to fill time between costume changes and was really able to create funny and entertaining banter to stall.  I think he's a natural performer, and he admitted to me that he now has the performing bug.  It's going around, baby.   And thank you to all of you for making Rob feel so welcome, and making his stage time less scary and more fun. 

And lastly?  All  my regular cast member Dolls.  

I'm not going to include pictures because 1) you can see them on our website and 2) I have to respect privacy for their regular daytime lives.  But something important to know about these women:  none are professional dancers or singers.  Most have taken the stage for either the first time ever, or the first time in years.  I am extremely lucky because they are all my friends, and they would all give me the shirt off their backs.  (And not just because they were stripping out of it.)  They are executives, creative directors, counselors, flight attendants, career professionals, and just outstanding, amazing women  

For me to watch them onstage - to see them come alive, create, control, and empower their lives - it's something that I wish I could bottle up for everyone to experience.  And yes, I realize that sounds very dramatic and mushy-gushy, but it's the truth.  These are incredible women - all of them the entire cast (And men!  We have incredible men in our cast as well), and I am honored to share the stage, rehearsal space, laughter, and fatigue with all of them.  Thank you for making my life better, my life fuller, and my life more beautiful.  xoxo

 

MORE LIPO-IN-A-BOX LOVE: Shapers & Bras & Face Cream Reviews!

You're about to see my boobies up close and personal-like.   The fact that  I'm posting a picture of this says a lot about the product.   If you're a WLS post-op, you know what I'm saying.  Boobies deflate.  They can be rolled up.  They droop.  It's not so pretty, except now they are:

You may recall that I wrote a review on Connie Elder's "Lipo-In-A-Box" line last week, and expressed my love for the giant box of shaper happiness that Connie had sent me.  Now often, it may seem that I gloat about EVERY product that is sent to me, but I have a "no bad reviews" policy, meaning, if you send me something to try and I don't like it, I will just NOT review it.  (I have no interest in spending time writing a negative review -  bleck, wasted time and energy. I'd rather just move on to the good stuff.)  I mention this only so you'll know that when I *do* review something, it's because I really like it - or in this case LOVE it.  And let me say it loud and clear:  I LOVE CONNIE ELDER'S PRODUCTS.

I'll be the first to admit that this is not the most delicate/girl-y bra I have ever seen, but when I spoke to Connie (the founder) on the phone, she said that this is one of the most popular bras in her Lipo-In-A-Box line and women rave about it.  Add me to that group, I LOVE THIS BRA.  

I'm wearing the Antoinette Bra here, and I personally think my boobies look FANTASTIC.  (Believe me, that is not a statement you would normally hear me make.)  From the website:

I'm usually a girl who goes for the polka dots and leopard print, but I've been converted.  This nice nude-shade (heh) bra works under everything, and it's super-duper comfy.  Underwire?  You'd never be able to tell, it's THAT comfortable.

Now in addition to the bra, let's take a close-up of my face, shall we?  In particular, my forehead:

If you follow me on Facebook, you may remember that I had bangs cut a few months ago, and not because I thought bangs were hot.  I had them cut to camouflage the horrid tracks of time on my forehead.  It is a curse within the ladies of my family:  wrinkly foreheads.  It's just not pretty.  A furrowed brow in the Diva T family is not a pretty picture.  So take a good look at this photo.  Lines? Yes, but HUGELY reduced.  

I've been using the Underology Skin Care Line for the past two weeks, and I see a really remarkable difference in my skin.  I've never been a fan of heavy creams, and that's why I like this stuff so much. Lightweight, non-greasy, and quick-drying.  No stinky smells (I get wicked headaches from smelly stuff, so I was relieved I didn't have to deal with any smelly stuff when using this), and I noticed a visible difference after about a week.  Do I look 10 years younger?  Hell no, but my skin looks a LOT more refreshed and just FEELS better.  Here are the products I've been using religiously:

I'm telling you, this stuff is MAGIC.  I know everyone's skin is different, but as a dry-skin-fast-approaching-40-gal, this is like a little bit of a miracle in a jar for me.  LOVE.

THE SHAPE OF MY NEW OBSESSION

In June, the Backstage Pass Radio Program will be back on air.  (Hi!  I miss talking to myself in my basement!)  I'm doing a month-long expose on weddings, and I've got a roomful of things to review, but I couldn't wait to review this because YOU. NEED. THIS.
 

Connie Elder, a QVC powerhouse, created a line of shapers called Lipo-In-A-Box.  I just happened upon her Facebook ad one day, and admittedly laughed at the name a little bit.  BUT, the name also made me want to try the products out, pronto-like.  And unknown to me, Connie was interview by my pals over at BariatricTV.com as well:

The first thing to know about Connie:  she personally took the time to speak with me, figure out what my shaping needs were, my sizes, and really wanted to make sure that I tried out the products that were best for my body type (read:  lumpy), size (read:  boobies), and preference (read: sausage). I appreciated that she took the time to work with me, and I have to tell you - the gal is a pro.  She saw my pictures, spoke with me, and then selected the best possible items for me to review.  I literally have a BOX full of LIPO, and although I've only had the chance to try two things out so far, I coudn't wait to tell you about them:

 

Bodysuit With Underwire Support, #46001

I am VERY difficult to please with bodysuits.  They never seem to fit me exactly the way they should:  either the bottom is too high cut and my poochy belly hangs out of the bottom, or the top doesn't support my boobies, and I have to wear a bra underneath it (let's play how many layers of shapers can you wear at once!).  Even though I like the convenience of a one-piece bodyshaper, I hardly ever buy or wear them because they just NEVER fit correctly.  

Until now.

I have to be honest:  when I opened this up, I didn't have much hope.  The fabric seemed very light, and I didnt think it would give me the firm shaping support that my midsection needs.  Uh, WRONG.  I put this on, and it FIT LIKE A GLOVE.  A big, comfy, belly wrapping glove.  

This is the underwire bodyshaper, and it supported me enough that I did NOT need to put on an extra bra layer - score!  Adjustable straps made it even more perfect to fit my long-torso frame. The bottom?  A full cut panty that provided complete coverage.  I couldn't believe how great the shaper supported everything - especially considering how lightweight and comfortable the fabric was.  

This is my new go-to shaper.  Unbelievable.  100% love.

Next up, a strapless bra:

"MARILYN" "The Ultimate Strapless" Go2 Bra by Lipo in a Box

Now I'll be the first to admit that this isn't the prettiest bra out there on the market, but quite honestly, I don't care about pretty - I want it to work.  When I opened this package up, I had the opposite reaction from the body shaper - this material seemed really heavy to me, and I wasn't sure this was going to be comfortable...or work.  Still, I've got a strapless wedding gown that I have to get into early summer, and the one thing I'm going to definitely need is a good strapless bra.

I have to go through this little routine when I try out a strapless:  I turn it around and put it on upside-down and backwards, then twist it around so it's facing the right way, then pull it down OVER my boobies, and then tuck everything into place.  You're welcome for that visual. I went through the routine, and then I turned around and looked into the mirror and actually wanted to walk around topless.  Yeah, my bust looked THAT GOOD.  (Then after scrolling down to my bare belly, I decided against that.)  It's underwire, it's comfortable, it's perfect.  ♥ Strapless bra love! ♥

DIVA GLAM REVIEW: DESIRE4MO.COM

My love of Kim and her website Desire4Mo is well-known, but I feel like it's worth writing about again.  Kim/D4M  has outfitted so many events in my life now, that I almost feel like she's part of my family.   Ok, well part of my wacky online family, but still.

I have a love of all things retro/vintage/50s and I was so, so, so excited to wear this in my new promo photos.  It's totally kitchy and ridiculous, and totally me.  I wanted something fun to wear, and Kim was happy to provide it.  The costume itself is really comfortable and flattering and completely adorable for any sock-hop type of party.

Saddle Shoes!

I had found this costume in a thrift store over the summer for $6, and  I really wanted to wear it to one of my Halloween parties.  I didn't have any saddle shoes, but I knew who would:  www.desire4mo.com.  And let me tell you, they were COMFY!  I was out with 6 other girls that evening walking around Harvard Square, and I was the ONLY one who was in comfortable footwear.  Score one for my tootsies!

Now granted, if you saw the model wearing this on the website, you probably wouldn't immediately think, "this is perfect for a 12 yr old!" But considering Britt's height vs. the model, and how easy it is to style something down, I had a feeling this would be adorable - and I was right.

We put little freckles all over her face, and I was just waiting for her to break out into some Shirley Temple songs.  (Although I'm pretty sure she doesn't even know who that is.  Sigh.)
